Build Your Wild Self

Check out our wild selves!!! We’ve been learning about structures and functions of animals that allow them to survive in particular environments. We made ourselves wild and thought about the adaptations we would need to survive in the wild. Class book app smash was made using buildyourwildself.com, Google Slides, and Explain Everything.

STEM Olympics 2018 from San Antonio, TX

It’s no secret that we’ve been celebrating the 2018 winter Olympics here in our 3rd grade classroom! My students made bobsleds, snowboarders, hockey equipment, and curling stones. We tested each of them out and even awarded some medals for bobsled and snowboard races on the playground slides! Here are a ton of pictures and videos! We even coded our robot Dash to curl and hit the button on the curling house! Jackson made Dash a Lego Olympic torch too! It’s been fun learning about the Olympics and celebrating engineering week at the same time! #CrossCoders

Sound Energy Lab

Today our student teacher, Mr. Decker, led a science lab on sound energy! Here are some pictures and a video!

Scientist of the Week

Here are some pictures from our first few scientists of the week! Click on the images to enlarge.

Changes in State of Matter

Today we made videos on the changes in state of matter. First, we brainstormed different ways we could change a chocolate bar. Then, we broke up in groups and made videos with each group showing a different way to change a chocolate bar. Here are our videos!

STEM Stations Day 2

Here are some pictures from our STEM stations today. We made foil boats to see which could hold the most square tiles. Rodney, Ishah, and Victoria’s boat held over 200 tiles! We also made 3D shapes using spaghetti noodles and marshmallows. We used our makey makey to explore circuits and even programmed our Sphero robot. We also made marble roller coasters out of cereal boxes and toilet paper rolls!

Pokemon Go Hyperdoc Style!

Last night I found this AWESOME Pokemon Go Hyperdoc on Twitter and I just had to get a copy for my students! Thanks to the original Hyperdoc creators, I was able to make a copy and adapt it for my 2nd graders. It was geared for upper elementary, so I deleted 1 or 2 activities, but everything else my 2nd graders were able to do, which is amazing!! Here are some pictures of the tasks they had to do: come up with a math problem dealing with Pokemon characters, solve a 3-4th grade multiplication problem, create their own, and share 3 things they learned from the Hyperdoc.

Here are pictures of the Pokemon characters the created, the answer to the math problem, and some reflection pieces. Click on images to enlarge.

SO FUN!!!! Thank you to the wonderful Josephine Chia and Courtney Ziska for creating this Hyperdoc! I know my class enjoyed it immensely!

Makey Makey

Yesterday during our library lesson with Mrs. BF, we explored circuits with makey makeys! We got one through our Donors Choose and explored them with the 4th graders and now we got to do it ourselves! Here are several pictures and videos of our exploration with makey makeys! We LOVE STEM learning!!
