Halloween Technology Fun!

Here are some examples of our Halloween technology projects we’ve been working on during the month of October. We built our own Jack-o-Lanterns to learn how to copy and paste, we decided what Mrs. Cross should be for Halloween, and we wrote our own Halloween Rebus stories! SO FUN!! International Dot Day

September 15th is International Dot Day! Dot Day is a day based off the book The Dot by Peter Reynolds. We discussed how you can leave a mark on the world to make it a better place. Each student decorated their own dot to reflect themselves and how they will leave a mark. Then, we used the Quiver app to make their dot come to life in 3D.. how cool!!

In the midst of celebrating Dot Day, we remembered that one of our coding robots is named DOT!!! We just had to celebrate by taking selfies with Dot! We even made one of our art dots into the robot Dot and made Dot come to life using the Quiver app! Check out these big smiles with our favorite small coding robot, Dot!

And of course, we had to get some class Dot selfies!

What a super fun day celebrating how we will make an effort to leave our mark to make the world a better place! <3

3rd Day of 3rd Grade!

Today we celebrated the 3rd day of 3rd grade!!! Here are some fun pictures!

1st Day of School!

Yesterday was the first day of school and we had a BLAST getting to know each other and establishing a classroom culture of family, kindness, and learning. I know it’s going to be a great year!

We started the morning with having some very special visitors outside our window. How very special to see deer outside our classroom window in the middle of the city!

This afternoon we got to create our own classroom virtual posters on what is expected in various places around the school. I didn’t give them any lead other than think about the type of environment you’d want to be a part of in the classroom, hallway, and cafeteria. Check out the app smashes they made using the class iPads!

They did a fabulous job sharing the iPads and learning a new app on the very first day of school. And look how creative! It’s definitely going to be a GREAT year! Stay tuned. 🙂

Pokemon Go Hyperdoc Style!

Last night I found this AWESOME Pokemon Go Hyperdoc on Twitter and I just had to get a copy for my students! Thanks to the original Hyperdoc creators, I was able to make a copy and adapt it for my 2nd graders. It was geared for upper elementary, so I deleted 1 or 2 activities, but everything else my 2nd graders were able to do, which is amazing!! Here are some pictures of the tasks they had to do: come up with a math problem dealing with Pokemon characters, solve a 3-4th grade multiplication problem, create their own, and share 3 things they learned from the Hyperdoc.

Here are pictures of the Pokemon characters the created, the answer to the math problem, and some reflection pieces. Click on images to enlarge.

SO FUN!!!! Thank you to the wonderful Josephine Chia and Courtney Ziska for creating this Hyperdoc! I know my class enjoyed it immensely!

Red Nose Day

Today is #RedNoseDay! It is a day that aims to end child poverty by raising money and awareness for kids in the U.S. and around the world. For the last 3 years, I have bought my class red noses from Walgreens to help ensure that no child goes hungry. Here are some fun pictures with our red noses!

Hedbanz

Today we reviewed 2nd grade math vocabulary playing the game Hedbanz! I brought the headbands from the board game and wrote math vocabulary on note cards. Kids had to give each other clues so the person wearing the headband could guess the vocabulary term! Reviewing math is so much fun!
